Planning permission has just been granted on appeal for the store on Cowbridge Road, bringing with it a welcome employment boost for the area.

Domino’s Pizza will be recruiting within the community for trainee managers, trainee pizza makers, customer service representatives and delivery experts.

The franchisee for the new Pontyclun store is local young business man, Tej Randeva, aged 30 from Llantrisant,

Tej Randeva, franchisee of the new Domino’s store said; “It’s been a long time coming but I am absolutely delighted we now have the go ahead for our new store in Pontyclun. I’m disappointed we had to go to appeal for approval, but we got the decision we wanted in the end and I just can’t wait to get my new team onboard. We are looking to employ people who live in the community that we’ll be serving. First and foremost, we’ll be looking for people who can deliver great customer service and demonstrate strong teamwork skills, as well as boundless enthusiasm. It’s also vital to be able to maintain a sense of fun while working under pressure.”

Domino’s Pizza believes in opportunities for all. The company is an Age Positive Employer Champion, which means that it has been recognised for its commitment to welcoming applicants of all ages.
At induction, as well as throughout their career, Domino’s offers its employees full training, ranging from dough management and food hygiene for pizza makers through to road safety for pizza delivery experts. Domino’s always recruits from the surrounding area and, with an additional focus on developing strong community links, aims to deliver more than just great tasting pizza. In particular, Domino’s supports Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB) on both a national and local level. SOGB provides people with learning disabilities opportunities to take part in year-round sports training and competition.

Having set the standard for online ordering in the home food delivery market, Domino’s today [October 26, 2009] celebrates ten years of online ordering in the UK. Rapid growth in internet penetration during that time, coupled with a clear, clean and easy to use online ordering system, has generated online sales for the last full year of £55.9m – and the platform now accounts for over 27% of delivered sales.

To celebrate this milestone anniversary, Domino’s has launched three new initiatives – the Pizza Tracker, an iPhone ordering app and a promotional offer giving customers a 50% discount on all orders over £30, excluding drinks and ice-creams.

The Pizza Tracker has been available in the US since January 2008 and will allow web customers in the UK and Republic of Ireland to see exactly where their pizza is at any time prior to delivery. Customers using the tracker can see a changing display that shows when the order has arrived at the store, when it is in the oven, when it is ready for collection or on the road and when it’s been safely delivered and the driver is back in the store. The tracker takes the angst out of those customers who have to know that their order has been received, cooked and dispatched.

The new iPhone app is accessed via the usual www.dominos.co.uk or www.dominos.ie and offers a quick and easy way for iPhone users to get their favourite pizzas. It has all the functionality of Domino’s traditional online ordering, including meal deals, and as it is a weblink it come free rather than as a paid for download.

Finally, to celebrate ten years of online ordering in the UK, Domino’s will be offering all UK web customers a 50% discount on all pizzas, side orders and Domino’s desserts over £30 from Monday October 26 to Sunday November 1.

Sales and marketing director Robin Auld said: “Yet again, we are leading the way for technophiles with the Pizza Tracker. Having had online ordering for some 10 years now, we need to offer something new and exciting for our web customers – and the Pizza Tracker is a the ultimate toy for web-based control freaks! At the click of a mouse you can see exactly how near to delivery your pizza is.

“Combined with the new iPhone app and the 50% online discount offer, there is no better time to be ordering a Domino’s pizza through the web than the week of October 26, 2009. If you haven’t already got a high speed PC and wireless broadband – you should be investing today!”

Giedrius Zilinskas, Manager of Domino’s Pizza in Rathmines, Ireland, has scooped the highly prestigious title of Domino’s International Store Manager of the Year, out of over 4,000 people across 63 countries. Giedrius was presented the coveted award at a special ceremony in Las Vegas for his determination, exceptional performance and for the high standards of food safety, quality and service that he achieves in his store on a daily basis.

Giedrius’s store in Rathmines achieved a 98% average on the Domino’s Pizza Group’s vigorous audits, which are done four times a year. Giedrius also took it upon himself to deliver free pizzas to the homeless during the Christmas season in 2008 for the second consecutive year.

Giedrius delivered a moving acceptance speech at the ceremony in Las Vegas, explaining how he had come to Ireland in 2005 from Lithuania and how daunting his first day at Domino’s was when he realised he had so much to learn.

Giedrius started as a Trainee Manager of the Dundrum store and worked his way up to Deputy Manager there. He was then promoted to Store Manager at the Walkinstown store which he launched in 2006. In 2007 Giedrius was promoted to Store Manager of the Rathmines store, where he works today.

General Manager, Fergus McDonnell, said: “I recall interviewing Giedrius in 2005; he came across as an ambitious and extremely driven young man. He has proven that hard work, integrity and commitment to excellence always pays off. I am sure that as great as this achievement is, receiving the award will be seen as a milestone in what will be a very successful career.”

When Giedrius accepted his award in Las Vegas, he proposed to his long term girlfriend Dovile Bumbulyte, who travelled to Ireland with him in 2005 and has supported his career over the years. The couple are both overjoyed with the award, the engagement and their plans for the future.

Domino’s have today unveiled their latest type of pizza; the Chicken Tikka pizza.

See the full Youtube video of the dance troupe’s Bollywood invasion online at Domino’s Pizza UK and Ireland’s Facebook page or on YouTube.

The Stamford Hill branch had the honour of rustling up the first Domino’s chicken tikka pizza whilst the Bollywood dance troupe Angel Dances entertained staff and customers in celebration of the new pizza’s arrival. Even the owner of the store, franchisee Ajaz Mirza, got into the spirit of it when he joined the dancers in their spicy routine.

The Chicken Tikka adds to the range of pizzas for the spicier customer and joins popular favourites such as the Sizzler, Tandori Hot and Piri Piri Pizzas. This pizza should add to the existing highly varied choice available for all pizza lovers, including meat-heavy pizzas the Meateor or American, fish-focussed pizza Calypso or vegetable-only Vegetarian Supreme or Veg Lite.

The Chicken Tikka pizza is available nationwide starting from lunchtime today and is sure to be a bit hit upon the store opening for pizza lovers in the Llantrisant area soon.

Saudi-based firm Easternpak has just struck a deal with major pizza chain Domino’s to supply their Middle –Eastern branches with printed corrugated catering boxes. This is quite a coup for the manufacturing company as Domino’s Pizza is a world leader in the pizza industry, selling over 400 million pizzas worldwide every year.

General Manager of Easterpak, Pierre Akl Paid, visited Domino’s headquarters recently and explained during the visit how his product had satisfied all of Domino’s quality requirements. Mr Paid is delighted to become an approved supplier for pizza giant Domino’s and excited to begin work equipping Domino’s outlets in the Middle East with recyclable food cartons.

Easternpak currently employees 340 workers at its plant in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and continues to grow from strength to strength since its formation in 1994. The company specialises in the manufacture of recyclable corrugated packaging including boxes and cartons for food as well as supplying the agricultural, industrial and pharmaceutical industries with packaging.

Leading pizza chain Domino’s today announced a 25% increase in first-half profits. Although many restaurants continue to be hit by the economic downturn, takeaway food chains appear to be capitalising on the consumer’s decision to stay in.

Paul Hickman at KBC Peel Hunt commended “Domino’s marketing excellence” and also cited shrewd business moves such as the company’s high profile sponsorship of the hit ITV1 show Britain’s Got Talent as contributing to the success of the brand.

It has even been suggested that Swine Flu will further boost sales for Domino’s as more and more people are quarantined in their homes and forced to rely upon take away options. A Domino’s spokeswoman was quoted as saying that the Swine Flu outbreak had had a “positive impact” on sales in Mexico where the virus first took hold.

A combination of insightful advertising campaigns and the lure of discounts have contributed to the overall sales increase which saw profits jump by 15.4% to £196.4 million in a mere 6 months. A staggering 40% increase in online sales was also reported painting a very glowing picture of the franchise company.

Top city analysts have been forced to raise their estimates after shares for Domino’s gained almost 5% today to 230p. One such analyst even predicted pre-tax profits for Domino’s tripling by 2017.

With or without the aid of Swine Flu, the pizza giant is on a roll which leading experts predict will last the course.

As well as the recent annoncement of the Llantrisant (South Wales) Domino’s Pizza store opening in Winter 2009, developers are hoping that the arrival of a pizza business at Wigan Pier will have a domino effect on attracting other firms.

While the new apartments at the revamped Trencherfield Mill have been occupied with relative ease, the recession has ensured it has been a tougher ask to fill the commercial spaces created there. But that is set to change after development company Stewart Milne announced its first commercial letting: the world’s leading pizza delivery company, Domino’s.

With contracts now exchanged, Domino’s is set to occupy just under 1300ft sq of retail space within the canal-side conversion. A council source said: “Domino’s is a big coup for Wigan Pier. Not only that, there are usually two or three other businesses waiting in the wings for Domino’s to make the first move then come in after it so this could be the start of a bit of a rush.

Fingers crossed.” Formerly a working cotton mill, the Grade II listed building has been expertly renovated to offer a mix of prime retail and leisure space, Grade A office accommodation with parking and 52 apartments. Around 80 per cent of the flats, which have one and two bedrooms, are now sold. Malcolm Deans, managing director of Stewart Milne Developments, said: “This is an encouraging start to this phase of Trencherfield Mill, and demonstrates a demand for well placed quality commercial space. “With discussions underway with companies looking to expand, we are confident that Domino’s Pizza will be the first of many.”

Profits at takeaway and delivery pizza giant Domino’s have rocketed by almost a quarter in another sign that families hit by the credit crunch are abandoning restaurants for cheaper stay at home meals.

Domino’s Pizza, which has 572 stores in the UK and Ireland run on a franchise basis, said people wanted to ‘trade down’ from going out for a meal, but were unwilling to give up entirely on luxuries.

It said profits rose to £23.4million in the 52 weeks to December 28, and it had an ‘exceptional’ start to 2009 with like-for-like sales for the first six weeks up 15%.

The chain said it grew at a rate of a store a week in 2008 and it was planning to open a further 50 outlets this year, creating another 1,500 jobs in the UK and Ireland.

The news comes amid a boom for fast food outlets after fried chicken chain KFC said it was planning to expand its business, which would create up to 9,000 jobs over the next five years.

Burger chain McDonald’s also said last year was its ‘strongest ever’ in the UK, despite the economic downturn.

The company also announced it had a broadening customer base, with a third of the 2.7million people it delivered to last year being new customers.

But chief executive Chris Moore sounded a note of caution.

He said: ‘While we are delighted with this performance, we face some very tough comparatives and an unpredictable economic environment.’

He added this year’s store opening programme was ‘well under way’ and he was ‘confident that we are well positioned for another year of strong growth’.

Domino’s, which holds the master franchise to own, operate and lease out Domino’s Pizza outlets in the UK and Ireland, said its ‘aggressive expansion programme’ meant it was on track to exceed its target of 1,000 stores in the next 10 years.

Online sales at the chain rose 73.7 per cent to £55.9million, bolstered by some record weekends where sales exceeded £1million.

Founded in 1960, Domino’s has more than 8,700 stores in over 60 countries.

KFC, which currently employs around 20,000 people in its 760 British stores, said it would invest £150million in opening between 200 and 300 new restaurants.

The company reported a 14 per cent rise in sales.

Sandwich chain Subway has also announced plans to open another 600 stores, creating around 7,000 jobs.

Martin Shuker, KFC UK chief executive, told The Independent: ‘There aren’t many companies who can be so positive in this market so we are delighted to be able to announced this significant investment.

‘Our growth strategy demonstrates the strong demand from out customers; consumers clearly still want great quality food but at reasonable prices and that is exactly what we provide.’
